Jump Start January

To get 2021 started the way that we all deserve this month we’re focusing on ‘Jump Starting’ our January by moving more! Keeping active is a powerful tool for positive mental health and being ‘active’ is one of the five steps to wellbeing. With the current lockdown restrictions, it’s more important than ever for us to do everything we can to be kind to our bodies and minds so we in-turn can stand strong.

Why do I need to move more?

There’s heaps of science-backed research to prove daily activity can give you an incredible brain boost alongside, of course, keeping your body fit and healthy.

  • Decreases symptoms of depression2
  • Improves your learning abilities
  • Sharpens your memory
  • Protects your brain from ageing
  • Helps you sleep better
  • Improves energy levels

Okay, we know it’s good for us but how can we get started?

We get it. Sometimes getting back into things can seem daunting. Maybe you’ve never been the ‘sporty’ type, or you don’t have any equipment or running is your worst nightmare! That’s okay. The good news is moving more doesn’t have to fall into the traditional categories. The key is to find something you can do easily and to stick to it. It’s important to enjoy it too!

The key to it all is to start small. If you don’t have time, or maybe, the motivation to kick-off with 15-30 minutes of activity that’s okay too. Moving your body for just 5-10 minutes every day can start to make a difference. And the good news is that the more you do the more energy you’ll have and the better you’ll start to feel.
