Meet Alison, One of Chapter’s grants fundraisers!

What inspired you to join Chapter?

I’ve always been passionate about promoting positive mental health and well-being and love Chapter’s community-based approach. It’s an exciting time as Chapter is growing and providing new services to support even more people. Joining Chapter also gave me the opportunity to move back home to Cheshire after ten years away!

What’s the best bit about your work?

Being able to tell lots of people about the incredible work that Chapter does, and finding funding that could potentially have a huge impact on people who benefit from Chapter’s support.

Thanks for that. And what’s your own well-being ‘go-to’?

Ordinarily – travel! But currently it’s swimming outdoors, attempting a run, and long sunny walks in the countryside with my mum and sister.

Perfect. Alison tell us something unusual, or unexpected, about you that not many people would know.

In 2016, I lived in Nigeria for three months on a Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) placement. It inspired me to come back home and spend another 12-months as a full-time volunteer mentoring disadvantaged children in schools and I’ve always volunteered in some capacity since. I’m a firm believer that volunteering can do so much good for your well-being and would encourage everyone to go out and volunteer however they can!

What’s your favourite inspirational quote for life?

“Most of the really exciting things we do in our lives scare us to death. They wouldn’t be exciting if they didn’t.” – Roald Dahl

What 3 things are you most grateful for?

Coffee, a new-found appreciation for the great British outdoors, and my sister

Any noteworthy professional associations / qualifications?

A degree in Psychology, I’m qualified to teach English as a second language, and currently studying for a Fundraising Diploma. For the past three years, I’ve also had a part-time job leading an after-school education project for teenage girls in London.

Lastly. What would you say to someone who’s thinking about contacting Chapter for support?

Taking the first step of getting in touch will be the hardest, but once you do the team are all so welcoming and lovely and will find the best service to support you.
