Chapter CHANGE – Amy’s Story

Often taking the first step to getting support is the scariest. That’s why we’ve teamed up with our incredible supporters to share their own stories. We’re calling it Chapter Change. It’s hard not to be inspired by their strength in sharing their experiences. We hope if you need a little help with your mental health this will give you the courage to contact us.

First up we have an awesome account from Amy, a busy mum, businesswoman and now a Mental Health Champion for Chapter. Massive thanks to Amy for helping us to help others. Here’s Amy’s story:

Why did you get in touch with Chapter?

I decided to get in touch with Chapter after suffering badly with mental health and anxiety for several weeks during March and April 2020. I received an email from our local council Cheshire West and Chester Council with different services for people to access during the lockdown period and thought why not get in touch with Chapter to seek help.

How easy was it to get in touch?

It was easy to get in touch and within days of me sending an e-mail, Chapter was in touch with me and offering support to me which I was extremely thankful for.

What support did you receive?

I received a phone call once a week and at all times I was asked if that was enough. I was given access to other helplines if I needed them, which I didn’t, so just having that weekly phone call has helped a lot and I am still able to get support if I need it from my first point of contact. As well as phone calls I have received e-mails and I also have a new buddy that will telephone me once a week.

How are things now?

I feel that slowly but surely I am becoming better. Without Chapter I would have felt alone and isolated and that I could not improve or work towards goals and just feeling more comfortable with the changes in my life and world.

What would you say to someone who’s thinking about contacting Chapter for support?

Please contact Chapter. At no point was I made to feel different or alien and I always felt calm and reassured that I did the right thing. I have absolutely no regrets and am so happy I reached out to them.
