Become a Connect Listening Volunteer

Listening volunteers can change the course of someone’s life and by doing so they shape their own.

Could you be the highlight of someone’s week and really hear where they’re at?   

As a CONNECT Listening Volunteer, you’ll be integral to the support network Chapter provides for someone on a journey to positive mental health. You’ll listen without judgment and empower someone who deserves to be heard and helped.

What Support and Training will I get?

  • In-depth training including an induction, safeguarding, listening skills
  • Regular support from our Volunteer Support Officer and wider Chapter team 
  • Increased skills, confidence and employability, building on your CV
  • New social networks as you will be part of the Chapter team and related partners
  • Support to work from home including DSE and wellbeing checks 
  • Access to ongoing and refresher training
  • Increase in your own wellbeing and mental health

What are we looking for?   

  • Good listener and clear communicator
  • Good at putting people at ease and building rapport
  • Ability to show empathy and kindness
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Able to work independently with guidance and support
  • Experience of a role involving listening and/or coaching helpful but not essential
  • Open to learning and accessing regular training and development sessions
  • Basic IT and organisational skills e.g. be able to use the internet
  • Team player and willing to work under own initiative
  • Ability to be able to ask for support
  • Able to respect the choices and differences of others

How do I become a Connect listening volunteer?

After making an enquiry you’ll have an interview as part of our selection process, and if you’re selected, you’ll attend our in-depth training.
